Travel to Ostrava
Ostrava is located in the north eastern part of the Czech Republic and represents a strategic transportation hub with close proximity to the border of Poland (15 km) and Slovakia (30 km).
Airport
The Leos Janáček International Airport provides regular connections to London, Warsaw and other cities in Europe. It is situated 25 km from the centre of Ostrava and is easily accessible through a direct railway connection (22 minutes / 2.12 EUR).
The nearest other airports are in the Polish cities of Kraków (171 km) and Katowice (59 km), which have a direct railway and bus connections to Ostrava (Kraków 3.5 hours / Katowice 2 hours). The most used train and bus companies are České dráhy, RegioJet, Leo Express and Flixbus (approx. 14-24 EUR).
In the Czech Republic you can also use Václav Havel Airport in Prague, which is connected by regular flights with the main cities in Europe. Connection between Prague and Ostrava is provided by the direct railway (3 hours / approx. 10-25 EUR).
Another important airport is located in Wien, Austria (300 km), from where you can use a direct railway connection to Ostrava (3.5 hours / 20 EUR).
Car
For driving a car, you can use the D1 motorway, which connects Prague and Ostrava and makes a further connection to the A1 motorway in Poland (to Katowice, Gdansk and Helsinki). Czech electronic vignette is easy to buy on the website edalnice.cz (12.66 EUR for 10 days).
The Czech Republic also has a dense network of railways, making it easy to get to Ostrava from Vienna (3.5 hours), Warsaw (5,5 hours) and other European cities. The main train hub in the Czech Republic is a city of Prague.

Long-distance and international connections are provided by the Student Agency and FlixBus companies, making Ostrava accessible from many European cities.
Local trains and buses
There are three railway companies in the Czech Republic – České dráhy (Czech Railways), RegioJet and Leo Express, which provide a long-distance and international travel. České dráhy additionally serves local and regional routes. Bus lines go to communities throughout the Czech Republic, while long-distance connection is provided by Student Agency or Flixbus. Local and supra-regional connections are provided by ČSAD company.
Public city transport
The city of Ostrava has one of the best public transport networks in Europe which consist of integrated system that combines trams, buses and trolleybuses. They make different parts of the city easily accessible. The advantage of this urban transport is the hight level of comfort an emphasis on passenger safety. Payment is provided by debit card directly in a city transport.
The ticket price is a maximum of 4 EUR (1-day ticket). You can alco busy a shot-term ticket: 9 EUR (3-day ticket), 14, 62 EUR (7-day ticket). The fare is valid within the boundaries of Ostrava (i.e., XXL) and is enough to get around the whole city. For trips outside the city, it is necessary to purchase an extended fare of use the services of other companies providing local transportation.
